Origin
This plant is a horticultural hybrid created by crossing two iconic species endemic to the Central Highlands of Madagascar. The parents include Pachypodium densiflorum (known for its golden flowers and robust, multi-branched form) and Pachypodium eburneum (prized for its ivory-white flowers and flattened, globose caudex). These hybrids are selectively bred by nurseries to stabilize a compact, highly aesthetic "bonsai" form that is often easier to cultivate than the pure species.
Habitat
As a cultivated hybrid, it does not have a native range in the wild. However, both parent species originate from high-altitude (1,200–2,000m) rocky massifs composed of quartzite or granite. In these environments, they endure intense UV radiation and extreme dry seasons. In cultivation, this hybrid thrives in conditions that mimic these sun-drenched, airy, and mineral-rich habitats, showing excellent resilience to a variety of climates.
Description
The Pachypodium densiflorum x eburneum hybrid is a "collector’s choice" plant, specifically bred for its sculptural beauty and ease of care.
-
Caudex & Form: It typically develops an exceptionally fat, silver-gray caudex. It often inherits the squat, globose (ball-like) shape of P. eburneum but with the increased vigor and tendency to produce multiple, short, thick branches characteristic of P. densiflorum.
-
Spines: The stems are covered in short, conical stipular spines. These spines are often densely packed on the crown, providing a fierce but symmetrical geometric look that collectors highly value.
-
Foliage: During the summer growth period, it produces a rosette of glossy, deep green leaves with a prominent light-colored midrib. The foliage is typically more robust and slightly larger than that of a pure P. eburneum.
-
Flowers: The floral color is a fascinating feature of this hybrid. The blooms are usually a gradient or intermediate shade, ranging from pale creamy-yellow to a soft primrose yellow, combining the "ivory" of one parent with the "gold" of the other.
-
Cultivation: This hybrid is notably vigorous. It requires maximum sunlight and a highly porous mineral substrate to maintain its compact, fat proportions. It is less prone to "stretching" (etiolation) than some other species and must be kept warm and dry during its winter dormancy.

Product Specifications
- All plants are shipped bare-root, without pots or soil.
- To prevent excessive nutrient loss during international shipping, which may make it harder for the plant to recover, we usually trim the leaves before delivery. If you prefer the plant to be shipped without trimming, please contact me in advance.
Planting Instructions
- Please collect the plants as soon as possible after arrival to avoid delays.
- Open the package immediately upon receipt and replant. Do not place in direct sunlight; keep in a shaded or indirect light location for 2–3 days.
- After the adaptation period, start watering and gradually transition the plant to direct sunlight.
Care Guide
- Light: Requires plenty of light year-round, but avoid direct sunlight, especially during the hottest part of the day.
- Temperature: Native to tropical arid–semi-arid climates; temperatures below 5°C (41°F) can cause frost damage.
- Humidity: Prefers well-ventilated environments; avoid overly dry or overly humid conditions.
- Watering: Water moderately when the soil is 70% dry or completely dry.
○In the warm growing season: 1–2 times per week
○In the cooler dormant season: 2–3 times per month
Adjust according to soil dryness and plant water uptake. - Soil: Best grown in well-draining soil; not demanding on soil type.
- Fertilizing: Rarely needs fertilization; recommend using Osmocote A2 slow-release fertilizer once or twice a year.
Shipping Notice
- After receiving your order, we require 3–5 days for leaf trimming, soil removal, and drying to ensure safe long-distance transport.
- We ship via air freight; delivery time is usually 8–16 days.
- During transit, plants may enter dormancy and appear shriveled, discolored, or reduced in size—this is normal. They will recover after proper care upon arrival.
(For Wholesale Orders) International Shipping
